Next Bible Study: 1 John 2:7-14

Please read through and study this text for the next bible study, which will be a week from this Sunday. As you read through it, write down questions and comments and post them in the comment section. This way we can begin thinking through the text before our meeting. Ask questions of the text. For example, right at the beginning in verse 7, John says that he is "writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the begining." Right away we should be asking ourselves what commandment John is talking about. He then says that it is not just a new commandment, but also an old commandment. How can a commandment be a new commandment and an old commandment at the same time? Spend some time working through this and other questions, and again, it would be great if some people posted their thoughts on the blog comments.

Can't wait to see you then!

2 John 2:3-5

Our next Bible Study for this sunday evening (3/11) will focus on 1 John 2:3-5

Last week we study this text from 1 John 2:1-2.
1My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

This week we will be studying this text below, from 1 John 2:3-5.
3And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. 4Whoever says "I know him" but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 5but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may be sure that we are in him: 6whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

Please take some time to work through these verses before our bible study. Remember that these verses are in context, so you will have to look back at the previous verses to understand what John is telling us here.

Can't wait to see you Sunday evening at 6pm!
