Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be at our regular time and place, 6:30 @ Josh & Abby's house. We will be looking at the passage we did not get to last week, 1 John 2:15-17. Please take time to meditate on these verses over the next week!

1 John 2:15-17
15
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

If anyone has questions or comments from our bible study on Sunday, please feel free to contact me, someone else on the group, or you can post it here :-)

Next Bible Study - 5/6/07

Our next Bible Study will be next Sunday, May 6. We will continue to look at 1 John, studying specifically 2:12-17.

For the moment, lets split this into two sections, 12-14, and 15-17.

1 John 2:12-14
12 I am writing to you, little children,
because your sins are forgiven for his name's sake.
13 I am writing to you, fathers,
because you know him who is from the beginning.
I am writing to you, young men,
because you have overcome the evil one.
I write to you, children,
because you know the Father.
14 I write to you, fathers,
because you know him who is from the beginning.
I write to you, young men,
because you are strong,
and the word of God abides in you,
and you have overcome the evil one.

Please take some time to look at these passages before next Sunday. A couple of initial comments/questions:
  1. Do verses 12-14 seem odd at all to you? What do you think John is trying to say in this section, and why does he write it this way?
  2. Verses 2:15-17: What does John define as the love of the world? What is wrong with loving the world? What can we surmise from those (including ourselves) if we see the love of the world?
